Berry Tramel is a ****ing idiot

Berry Tramel of the Oklahoman and NewsOK.com fired off a radically misinformed and unfair article today. Now that the Longhorn Network is fast approaching, he decided to jump on the bandwagon of attacking the Texas-ESPN venture by insinuating that Nebraska was prescient in leaving the conference before the controversial Longhorn Network caused "all kinds of problems." From http://www.omaha.com/article/20100830/BIGRED/708309872 :

"On both sides of the Platte, a million Nebraska fans are smiling, and this time, you can’t call them crazy."

"Just what Nebraska warned could happen is happening. The Texas network is causing all kinds of problems."

So.......Nebraska warned us about this?!? The Huskers had preached the evils of a school having its own network?!? This is odd, considering that if Nebraska had stayed in the Big 12, they were going to set up their own network for this season as well. They had been planning it for some time. From http://www.omaha.com/article/20100830/BIGRED/708309872 :

"While many have blamed Texas and its plans to start its own Longhorn TV network as the reason a Big 12 network never got off the ground, Nebraska wasn't on board with a conference network, either. Nebraska's support was conditional on the high-profile schools taking a larger cut of that revenue, too — a condition some schools strongly opposed.

As a result of those talks, Nebraska, like Texas, was now moving to create its own network. A consultant's study had concluded that a Husker network would succeed and bring in seven-figure revenue on top of what Nebraska was getting from major network telecasts.

Perlman said NU was on track to have its network running by the fall of 2011 — actually ahead of Texas' timetable. "

So, according to Tramel, Nebraska screamed to the heavens about the dangers of a single program having its own network while planning its very own network?!? Of course, this issue is further obfuscated by the fact that Tramel didn't mention that his in-state Sooners are also, you guessed it, planning their own network. From http://collegesportsblog.dallasnews.com/archives/2011/01/oklahoma-looking-to-launch-its-own-tv-ch.html :

"According to a story on TulsaWorld.com, the University of Oklahoma wants to have its own television channel up and operating sometime during 2011.

"That's our goal," OU senior associate athletic director Kenny Mossman said in a phone interview."

Of course, Tramel knows all of this, he was just counting on his readers not knowing it. But now you do.
