Good news for now. That means OSU doesn't think the worst is coming. I always assumed at the very least that there would be scholly reduction.
And brace yourselves Buckeye nation - the media will not take kindly to these self-imposed sanctions. You know they'll call this the absolute slap on the wrist.
The funny part is that there is no way to really make a self-imposed set of penalties harsh enough. There will always be the set of people out there that are insistent that the school in question went easy on themselves.
Who the hell cares about satisfying the media???
The failure of the school to get out in front of the entire episode has continually lead to the prolonged firestorm around OSU athletics. The PR failure and the subsequent media attacks are one of the major contributing parts to the NCAA investigation. Until the media is placated in some way shape or form, the continued attacks upon the image of the university will persist. It might not be right or even fair, but it is the world we live in.
Can we just go the SEC route and oversign?
I bet the vast majority of the national "public" doesn't even realize OSU self-reported this whole thing. Because of the failure of the media to actually report FACTS (instead of spewing & regurgitating juicy rumors and speculation).
The sports blogosphere wants blood, they're gonna be very disappointed. Of course OSU will be even more hated in the future if this is all we get.
This is good news IMO. Shows that from what the AD has heard from the NCAA and dug up on their own that they think these are roughly the penalties that would be coming their way.
Hell, if the SEC had to vacate all their bowl games, where they used "ineligibel players", we'd probably have a winning bowl record against them.
Unless the NCAA comes in and laughs at us for these, which I find highly unlikely considering they worked with us every step of the way to get to this point, there are gonna be a few other HC's (Brady Hoke I'm talking about you) who have some explaining to do to 2012 recruits.
who cares about vacated wins. you cant take away the game that actually happened. we beat arky, who cares what record books say when i saw it happen.
the whole thing is a mess and the one thing is, many of these kids think they should be semi pro while they are getting benefits most of us could only dream of, yet they want more.
Does vacating the Sugar Bowl win also mean the $$$$ tOSU received goes back to the NCAA as well?
I can accept that. Move on, please let's move on!
