My original post was not to prioritize coaches; it was about getting us to think about who Chip Kelly is and get started thinking about the plan; whether or not we as individuals wish to participate in that plan. I can tell from some of the comments that many need more evidence that a plan exists. I can give you some things. Other things you are going to have to think out for yourself with the information which is here presented. Little will be mentioned about Mr. Lyles but like any good play he is an anti-hero and an integral part of the drama which is unfolding. Coach Kelly? Well, he is the protagonist, conceiver and deliverer of this epic.
First, we know that throughout his coaching career he has traveled the country visiting many programs and coaches; learning seemed to be HIS passion and even a hobby which he converted into knowing a lot of stuff about a lot of stuff in the world of college football. He has an eye for both talent and integrity; he exudes each. Perhaps that is why the long-standing coaches at Oregon chose to stay on despite his lack of extended tenure, you think? If not, how did he get to where he now is? Accident? Bellotti just quit? Nope, the man is righteous, righteous enuf for even Phil Knight to endorse and encourage a smooth and speedy transition.
Next, we all mostly know about his meticulous planning. We have heard that he knows what is going to happen in the twenti-fifth minute of the first hour of the third day of fall workouts and he can show you what that will look like for RBs, DBs, TEs, QBs and MPs (military joke there, sorry.) So, he has perused nearly the entire world of college football and he has seen the good, the bad and the ugly AND, if it doesn't pertain to him, it's not an area of his concern. Recruiting good football players IS an area of his concern and some people were not playing the game fairly.
How do YOU think that the NCAA heard about Mr Lyles and Oregon?
There's a late great professor that used to teach at Oregon named Jim Klonowski and he always asked his students to think critically. He did this by always telling them to ask the question, "Whose ox is gonna get gored?" In our situation, LaMichael James had come here and then when Lache Seastrunk showed up too, somebody was upset and 'leaked' a series of half truths to the NCAA.
Coach Kelly knew to whom the ox belonged because he had been warned. Chip checked with everybody with whom he could check, ensuring the Oregon powers-that-be both knew and approved and only after that put his plan into action. The best lawyer money could buy was also put on retainer as an added precaution and I'm telling you true, this is GREAT.
I spend a lot of time around Pre's Trail and I see Chip occasionally completing his run. When he crosses Leo Harris Parkway on his way back to the Cas Center, he comes across the bridge, stays in the crosswalk and only after reaching the curb does he cut left toward his destination. IMO, that's how legal he is. I saw an Oregon football player do that today also, unaccompanied. Not many people, if any others, do that. Most take a shortcut; he does not. Read what you will into that.

If I understand you correctly, you are saying that Chip Kelly saw that the recruiting playing field was heavily slanted towards the big powers, and set out to do something about it. You are also intimating that Chip Kelly saw the slander from the University Of Texas coming and that this is all a setup to get this whole thing to backfire on a big nation power, in this case Texas, in order to level the playing field of college recruiting everywhere.
If that is true, Chip Kelly is a bigger 'effin genius than any of us can even comprehend.

I questioned your first post, and again, you seem to be speculating that CK has had some master plan and has been three steps ahead of everyone involved, and that every single action was no accident but carefully concocted to produce a desired outcome.
Makes for a great novel, but it doesn't sound like reality.

If I read between the lines, you seem to be implying that someone at Oregon (presumably Coach Kelly) hoped that the NCAA would start looking at the recruiting practices of these so called “agents/advisors” in order to expose the recruiting practices of other institutions and level the playing field.
I know that we call him “big balls” Chip, but I find it very hard to believe that anyone would welcome the NCAA to sniff around their program (no offense to you sir). Again, it would be akin to me picking up the phone and calling the IRS asking to be audited. Even though I try my best to fill out my tax forms every year according to the instructions, they aren’t always the easiest to comprehend and I could make a mistake (similarly the NCAA rules and regulations are very complex). To Ches’s point, even though I tried my best and am open and honest, I’m still responsible for the repercussions (e.g., back taxes and penalties).

Did Kelly set up Texas?
To level the playing field, one must get to the "mentors" that are steering kids to other schools and shutting UO out. So by paying $25,000 (small change) to a less than scrupulous "mentor", rubbing UT's face in it and UT having it investigated, the "clean" Ducks will force investigations into other schools who have kids steered to them. The Longhorns will be very guilty on that front. The scouting services that are left will certainly give the Ducks a fair shake as they don't want to be the target in the future. Recruitment playing field has now been leveled somewhat.

I've had these question in my head for a while, so I may as well ask them here and see what you all think. . How much of this situation do we hear about if Texas goes 10-2 or 11-1 instead of 5-7? How much of this situation do we hear about if Garrett Gilbert is a good quarterback or Texas has a running game?
Is Texas scared of Oregon?
I doubt it, I mean they are the baw gawd Texas Longhorns. However, I do think there is some embarassment in Austin because of their 5-7 record while Oregon is 3 points away from a national title with some of their key contributors being from their own backyard.
Recruits who, for the most part, Texas did really recruit, and did not want.

Chip Kelly sees that national power schools, such as Texas, are using "recruiting services" to slant the recruiting field in their favor through "shady payments". CK determines to set out and do something about it, essentially exposing it and getting it to backfire on a national power like Texas.
This would mean that CK would have to have an affadavit signed and noterized BEFORE he went about this, stating that he was going to engage in questionable actions knowingly only to expose the corruption in college recruiting. This along with the AD at Oregon approving such an action. Then they would have to send the noterized letter to the NCAA about said "sting operation to expose corruption in recruiting".
I have a very hard time believing that or buying into it.
I still believe that Oregon, and Chip Kelly, simply trusted the wrong man to know how to run a business and comply with the laws and rules for that business. Oregon didn't do anything wrong or violate NCAA rules, but it still doesn't look good to get seen with your pants down trusting the wrong person.

I disagree slightly with your conclusion about Texas being the program driving the bus. Although they certainly wouldn't mind you getting busted.
I think back to 1992-93. It wasn't the other NW schools that were really pushing for UW to get hammered. It was Bill Walsh at Stanford, and it was especially Larry Smith and USC. USC just weren't used to some team completely taking over their spot as the top program.
This doesn't mean Oregon is innocent, but I think there's no question its the programs that heavily recruit East Texas that can't wait to stick knives into the backs of Oregon. Like Texas A&M. Like LSU. I doubt it's the other Pac 12 programs, who would occasionally like to be able to get some national recruits themselves.
Wait...haven't aTm and LSU been linked to Willie Lyles before? Aren't you about to play LSU in a big national game? Wouldn't Les Miles enjoy having Oregon be distracted by this?

It's Texas...I've done some research on this, Texas is driving the bus, and providing gas money, and directions. but Kiffin is chipping in too with help from his friends in the media, Cowherd, the idiot sports by brooks.
